Heat with the Hellhound

She summoned a demon by accident. He’s keeping her on purpose.

I bought the book for five dollars at an estate sale because it looked good on a coffee table.

Twelve hours in the ER, one glass of sweet wine, and I read the Latin out loud as a joke.

Now there’s a naked man standing where my coffee table used to be. Six and a half feet of him, horns curving back through black hair, red markings burning under his skin, eyes that actually catch light — telling me he has waited three hundred years for me and he isn’t leaving.

His name is Rex. He says I smell like everything he was promised. He says his rut started the second he scented me, and that the pit takes him back in seventy-two hours.

I’m a tired nurse with bad coffee and worse luck, and he looks at me like I’m the only warm thing in the world.

Seventy-two hours. I keep telling myself I’m going to send him back.

Accidental summoning, instalove, monster romance, he falls first, forced proximity, touch-her-and-die possessive, funny and filthy, Halloween heat, HEA. Standalone.

Hellhound’s Obsession

She mispronounced his name. Now she’s screaming it for eternity.

I run a funeral home and I talk to the dead. That part is normal for me.

What is not normal is reading the Latin off an antique mourning locket, getting the pronunciation wrong, and tearing a hole in the air.

What comes through it is enormous and silver-haired, with horns curving back off his temples and sigils burning white under his skin, and he tells me I’m the first person in several thousand years to say his real name correctly.

His name is Bane. He guards death’s door. He has stood at it alone longer than my species has existed, and he looks at me — me, the mortician nobody sits next to — like I’m the thing he was waiting for the whole time.

The veil seals in thirteen days and takes him back through it.

Thirteen days. The hardest part isn’t that he’s a monster. It’s that he’s kind.

Accidental summoning, instalove, monster romance, he falls first, grumpy ancient guardian, touch-her-and-die possessive, gothic and funny, Halloween heat, HEA. Standalone.

Submitting to the Hellhound

She filed the wrong papers. Now she’s filled with hellfire.

I’m a bookkeeper. I was cataloguing my boss’s basement, which is the least dangerous thing I have ever done in my life.

Then I unrolled a rug with a circle woven into it, read the card tied to the corner out loud, and something came up out of the smoke.

He’s enormous and completely naked and entirely unbothered about it, with short dark horns curving back from his temples and molten gold burning where a person keeps their eyes. He came here to arrest whoever summoned him.

His name is Lock. He’s an enforcer of the ninth circle, and the second he scented me he stopped being interested in arresting anybody.

He says I have magic I was never told about. He says my blood was made to match his. He says the full moon is coming and I should decide what I want before it does.

I keep telling him no. My body has something different to say.

Accidental summoning, instalove, monster romance, he falls first, praise, touch-her-and-die possessive, funny and filthy, Halloween heat, HEA. Standalone.

Knotted by the Hellhound

She lit the wrong candle. Now she’s not going anywhere.

The candle wouldn’t light, so I read the weird Latin on the card. In my defense, it had been a long day.

Now there’s a horned, glowing, enormous man standing in my salt circle with absolutely no pants on, informing me that I’m his mate.

His name is Brutus. Brutus. I summoned an ancient beast of the pit and he’s named like my neighbor’s Rottweiler, and he does not think that’s as funny as I do.

He says the bond locks at the full moon. He says he’s not leaving. He says I smell like everything he’s waited centuries for, and the truly humiliating part is what my body does every time he means it.

I’ve spent my whole life keeping half my things in boxes so leaving never hurts. Four nights with Brutus, and I haven’t packed a thing.

Insta-everything, monster romance, accidental summoning, forced proximity (very forced), touch-her-and-die possessive, funny + filthy, Halloween heat, HEA. Standalone.

Claimed by the Hellhound

She’s always been the second choice. He chose her out loud, in front of everyone.

I’ve done this ghost tour a hundred times. The creepy Latin epitaph is just the part where the tourists gasp and somebody asks if it’s haunted.

Tonight I read it out loud, and a hellhound climbs out of the fog.

He’s huge and horned and very sure of himself. He takes one look at me and announces “MINE” in front of a tour group who think he’s a committed actor and burst into applause.

His name is Duke. He says it like a title. I say it like I’m calling a golden retriever. He does not care for that.

Nobody picks me. I’m the one people settle for. Duke picks me out loud, then tells me the gate between our worlds seals in seven nights.

He is absolutely not putting on the sweatpants I bought him. I’m starting not to mind.

Instalove, monster romance, accidental summoning, chosen-first, touch-her-and-die possessive, funny + filthy, Halloween heat, HEA. Standalone.

Book cover for Marked by the Hellhound by Piper Kane (Halloween Heat series)

Marked by the Hellhound

She touched the glass. Now she’s wearing his mark.

The mirror was a simple job. Clean the silver, reseal the back, deliver it Monday, and don’t touch the glass with my bare hand.

I touched the glass with my bare hand.

A mark burned itself into my skin, my workshop filled with smoke, and then he was standing in it, huge and horned and very pleased with himself, telling me the brand makes me his.

His name is Diesel. I told him that’s a truck-stop name. He told me it sounds powerful. It sounds like a Dodge, and I said so, and he marked me anyway.

I can touch an old object and feel the history in it, and I’ve spent thirty years hiding that and apologizing for it. Diesel says the mark seals in three days, and he won’t let me hide for one minute of them.

I should be scared of him. Mostly I’m scared of how much I don’t want Monday to come.

Instalove, monster romance, accidental summoning, hidden gift, touch-her-and-die possessive, funny + filthy, Halloween heat, HEA. Standalone.
